Bio
Sarah grew up in Austin, Texas and received a BS in Biochemistry and Genetics from Texas A&M University with a minor in Art. After moving to Chicago, she completed her MS in Biomedical Visualization (BVIS) at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC).
Sarah is currently a PhD candidate at UIC in computational biophysics. Her research relies on molecular dynamics simulations to study claudins, proteins which oligomerize into tight junctions between epithelial cells and form paracellular ion-selective channels. While working on her PhD, she spent 3 years at Nemours Children's Hospital as a remote animator, illustrator, and interactive designer. Sarah currently teaches Molecular Pharmacology for Biomedical Visualization at UIC’s graduate BVIS program. In her free time, she likes to build terrariums, train kickboxing, and play video games.
