Title:
"A multimedia survey of Houston Methodist's Center for Performing Arts Medicine, an integrated, comprehensive and collaborative arts and medicine program based in the Texas Medical Center"
Description: One of the largest and most comprehensive centers of its kind in the world, Houston Methodist's Center for Performing Arts Medicine (CPAM) manages collaborative resources of health care for performing and visual artists, arts integration and creative arts therapy for patients and employees, arts and medicine clinical research, and community arts in health outreach and education. This multimedia presentation will take the audience inside the hospital, offering examples of health care through the arts, program evaluation and research, as well as explore CPAM’s structure and broader collaborative environment important to the continuum of care for healthy communities. The presentation seeks to both inspire attendees by sharing compelling examples of arts in health in practice and to provide a practical reference model for further growth and expansion of the field of arts in health in America.
Objectives:
1. Expand understanding of how the arts contribute to person(human)-centered care and medical outcomes
2. Learn how arts program outcomes may be quantified to support patient and employee experience metrics
3. Explore a model for the sustainability of arts programs in the healthcare setting
4. Consider strategies for improving patient experience and employee engagement through the inclusion of creative arts and therapy experiences
