Description

Fight and Flight: Breath-First Fight Choreo

Over this hour, we'll explore breath as a foundational tool for effective, safe, and compelling fight choreography and the portrayal of pain and heightened emotion. Too often, performers treat breath as an afterthought during high-intensity scenes. In reality, breath is central to maintaining control, staying present, and delivering authentic physical storytelling.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Use breath to ground their physicality during combat sequences

  • Connect breath rhythms to movement phrasing for clearer, more believable action

  • Integrate breath work into both rehearsals and performance for safer, more sustainable fight work

The session blends practical exercises, partner work, and short choreographic sequences, suitable for both stage and screen performers. No prior combat training is required, but comfort with physical movement is recommended. Please wear clothes you can move in and close-toed shoes appropriate for movement work.

This session will take place immediately following the "Performing Pain" Panel (10:15–11:15 AM). Participants are highly encouraged to attend the panel as it will enrich the workshop experience.

To reserve your spot, please RSVP as soon as possible.
